22 Rules to write a Pixar Story (And any story) According to Emma Coats, Former story artist at Pixar:
#1: Un personaje se admira mucho más por intentar llegar a un objetivo que por lograr alcanzarlo.
#2: Debes tener siempre en mente lo que te resulta interesante pero, como audiencia, no como escritor.
#3: A pesar de ser básica la elección de un tema, no sabrás de que va el guión hasta llegar al final. Entonces, vuelve a empezar.
#4: Érase una vez… ___. Todos los días, ___. Un día ___. Por ello, ___. por aquello, ___. Hasta que finalmente ___.
#5: Simplifica. Focaliza. Combina personajes. Toma desvíos.Tendrás la sensación que pierdes material muy valioso pero te acabará dando mayor libertad.
#6: ¿Cuáles son las virtudes de tu personaje? ¿Cómo se siente a gusto? Ofrécele todo lo contrario. ¿Cómo se las apaña?
#7: Llega al desenlace antes que al nudo. En serio, los finales son duros de asumir. Mejor, adelantarse a ellos
#8: Termina tu historia y déjala estar, a pesar de no ser perfecta. La próxima vez, lo harás mejor.
#9: Cuando te veas atascado, confecciona un listado con aquello que jamás pasará después….y quizás, acabe pasando.
#10: Aparta aquellas historias que te gusten. Lo que te gusta de ellas, en parte, es tuyo: debes reconocerlo antes de usarlo.
#11: Transcribir la idea en papel te permitirá atar cabos. Si una gran idea no sale de tu cabeza, jamás la compartirás con nadie.
#12: Descarta lo primero que te venga a la cabeza. Y lo segundo, lo tercero, lo cuarto, lo quinto…descarta todo aquello que resulte obvio. Pruébate a ti mismo.
#13: Da opinión a tus personajes. Lo pasivo y manejable puede que, en un principio, te funcione, pero acabará por resultar un veneno mortal para tu público.
#14: ¿Por qué debes contar esta historia? ¿Qué creencia bulle en tu interior para darle forma? Si encuentras la respuesta, tendrás el corazón del relato.
#15: Si fueras tu propio personaje, ¿cómo te encontrarías en su situación? La honesta respuesta a esta pregunta dará credibilidad a situaciones imposibles de creer
#16: ¿Cuál es el reto? ¿sus dificultades? danos razones para empatizar con el personaje. ¿Qué pasa si no lo consigue? Opon todos los elementos posibles en su contra.
#17: Ningún trabajo resulta tiempo perdido. Si no funciona, a otra cosa mariposa. Probablemente te sirva en un futuro no muy lejano…
#18: Debes conocerte a ti mismo. La diferencia que hay entre dar lo mejor de ti, o caer en la constante queja. La historia se testea, no se refina.
#19: Las coincidencias que lleva a los personajes a meterse en problemas, funcionan de fábula. En cambio, las que llevan a librarse de ellos, te condenan.
#20: Ejercicio: analiza la estructura de una peli que no te guste. ¿Cómo la revertirías para que llegara a gustarte?
#21: Debes llegar a identificarte con los personajes y las situaciones que viven. No basta con una redacción cool. ¿Qué te llevaría a actuar de esa forma?
#22: ¿Cuál es la esencia de tu historia? ¿Su narrativa más económica? Si lo sabes, ya tienes como empezar.
